General Summary
This position is posted at multiple levels
The Columbia Generating Station (CGS) Fire Marshal (FM) serves as the principal point of contact for the plant fire protection program. The FM is independently responsible for ensuring fire protection program implementation / execution at CGS. This includes the performance of inspections, reviews, and reporting of findings to station management. The FM specifies compensatory measures, monitors plant fire protection activities, and ensures that administrative controls are safely implemented by plant personnel. The FM is owner of the B.5.b equipment and responsible for its maintenance and testing.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Monitor and support plant fire protection activities: Independently identify compensatory measures and verify the adequacy of actions taken for fire protection system impairments.
(1) Periodically audit permits for transient combustibles, ignition sources, barrier impairments, and fire protection system impairments to verify compliance with requirements.
(2) Administer controls for fire protection permitting processes and oversee implementation by plant personnel.
(3) Review maintenance work orders to assure appropriate fire protection measures are addressed.
(4) Coordinate and document actions for impairments to other types of credited non-fire barriers (e.g. flood barrier)
Oversee execution of plant fire brigade training, support the critique of fire brigade drills, and ensure the brigade is adequately equipped. Provide feedback to station management regarding fire brigade drill results.
Oversee routine maintenance of certain fire protection equipment associated with fire-fighting (e.g., hydrants, hoses, etc.). Provide support to departments performing maintenance on fire-fighting equipment.
Periodically review Pre-Fire Plans and assist with creation of plans for any new buildings brought into the protected area.
Provide plant fire protection tours to personnel and management as required.
Perform periodic walkdowns of the plant to ensure conditions are fire safe.
With proper training, provide backup to Plant Fire Protection System Engineer AND Non- Plant Fire Marshal: Ensure plant fire protection surveillances meet applicable FSAR, NEIL and NFPA requirements. Review results of surveillances with management to ensure compliance with applicable codes. Diagnose and/or troubleshoot emergent fire protection issues.
With proper training, provide backup to Fire brigade training and support by facilitating Drills, Classroom instruction, bi-annual Hammer training cycles.
Provide technical support for B.5.b equipment and implementing strategies regarding compensatory measures. Oversee routine maintenance on B.5.b equipment and associated B.5.b mitigations strategies (e.g., Truck, hoses, etc.). Provide consultative assistance to departments performing equipment maintenance.
Additionally, this position will include the following activities:
Participation on the Emergency Response team (ERO) when designated.
Support for the biennial refueling outage.
Support to the OCC and EOC as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
PRINCIPAL
Bachelor’s degree in a Fire administration / Management, business, engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university OR a Fire Protection related PE license obtained by accredited examination.
Requires at least eight years of fire protection experience, including at least one year of case/project management
Requires the following Professional Fire protection certifications: IFSAC Fire Fighter 1&2, Pro Board Fire Fighter 1&2, Hazmat Awareness Certified, and EMT license current or expired.
Time spent acquiring certifications can count toward required years of experience.
Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree at a ratio of 1:1 (1 year of experience for 1 year of education).
Experience must include programmatic experience in designing, developing, and implementing programs to meet industry and regulatory requirements and standards
SENIOR
Bachelor’s degree in a Fire administration / Management, business, engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Requires at least five years of fire protection experience, including at least one year of case/project management
Requires the following Professional Fire protection certifications: IFSAC Fire Fighter 1 &2 , Pro Board Fire Fighter 1&2, Hazmat Awareness Certified, and EMT license current or expired.
Time spent acquiring certifications can count toward required years of experience.
Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree at a ratio of 1:1 (1 year of experience for 1 year of education).
STAFF
- An Associate’s Degree is required and a minimum of four years of fire protection related experience OR High school diploma or GED with six years of directly related fire protection experience.

Salary Range
PRINCIPAL: Salary: $103,123 minimum to $128,904 midpoint, $154,685 career excellence
SENIOR: Salary: $89,665 minimum to $112,081 midpoint, $134,497 career excellence
STAFF: Salary: $77,963 minimum to $97,454 midpoint, $116,945 career excellence
Typically, selected candidates are hired at a salary rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
